                    CrownAdmin for UNIX
                    Sun/SPARC Solaris 2.4
                        Installation
                        ============

CrownAdmin allows you to configure your QMS printer and
perform network operations on printers connected to Ethernet
and Token-Ring networks.

This readme file describes how to install CrownAdmin for
UNIX on a Sun/SPARC Solaris 2.4 system from the QMS Software
Utilities CD-ROM.

>> Note: QMS provides CrownAdmin software in several
different media formats. If you require CrownAdmin on
some media other than CD-ROM, contact your QMS vendor for
purchase information. You can also download CrownAdmin
via our World Wide Web Server at http://www.qms.com, our
Bulletin Board at (334) 633-3632, or CompuServe at
   go qmsprint

Installation
------------
1 Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

   >> Note: Some CD-ROM drives require that the disk be
placed in a caddy before being inserted in the drive.
Check your CD-ROM documentation for information.

2 Logon the UNIX system as root.

3 Type the following command to go to the root directory:

       cd /

4 Verify that the CD-ROM file system has been automounted
by listing the contents of the platform directory:

       ls /cdrom/platform

The directory contains the several subdirectories,
    including unix.

5 Change to the location in which you want the
    CrownAdmin directory to be created.

    >> Note: The directory in which crnadm.exe resides must
be able to be mounted by all network nodes that need
       to access the printer.

6 Extract the files from the CD-ROM:

       tar xvf /cdrom/platform/unix/crnadm/solaris/ca_solar.tar

This creates a crnadm directory containing CrownAdmin.

7 When the installation is complete, choose Cancel, and then
    choose Exit this CD-ROM.

8 Unmount the CD-ROM file system:

       umount device_filename

For device_filename, substitute the complete pathname of
the device file associated with the CD-ROM drive.

9 Add the name of the directory containing crnadm (the
directory in which you extracted the ca_solar.tar file)
    to your path.

10 Refer to the "QMS CrownNet Setup Guide" to configure the
    CrownNet interface and the network.

 11 Run CrownAdmin by typing

       ./crnadm

>> Note: See the on-line user's guide for more information on
CrownAdmin (from the Help menu in the main CrownAdmin
   window choose Contents).
