                 CrownAdmin for UNIX/HP-UX
                        Installation
                        ============

CrownAdmin allows you to configure your QMS printer and
perform network operations on printers connected to Ethernet
and Token-Ring networks.

This readme file describes how to install CrownAdmin for
UNIX on an HP-UX system from the QMS Software Utilities CD-ROM.

>> Note: QMS provides CrownAdmin software in several
different media formats. If you require CrownAdmin on some
other media than CD-ROM, contact your QMS vendor.

You can also download CrownAdmin via our World Wide Web Server
at http://www.qms.com or CompuServe at go qmsprint

Installation
------------
1 Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

   >> Note: Some CD-ROM drives require that the disk be
placed in a caddy before being inserted in the drive.
Check your CD-ROM documentation for information.

2 Logon the UNIX system as root.

3 Go to the root directory by typing

      cd /

 4 If you don't already have a CD-ROM mountpoint, create a
   root-level directory by typing

      mkdir /cdrom

5 Mount the CD-ROM file system by typing

      mount -t cdfs device_filename /cdrom

where device_filename is the complete pathname of the device
file associated with the CD-ROM drive. If you're not sure of
this pathname, check your HP-UX documentation.

6 Verify that the CD-ROM file system has been mounted by
listing the contents of the directory:

      ls /cdrom

   The directory contains several subdirectories,
   including unix.

7 Change to the location in which you want the CrownAdmin
   directory to be created.

   >> Note: The directory in which crnadm.exe resides must
be able to be mounted by all network nodes that need
      to access the printer.

8 Extract the appropriate files from the CD-ROM.

   - If you're running HP-UX version 9.x, type

        tar xvf /cdrom/platform/unix/crnadm/hp_ux/ca_hp9.tar

   - If you're running HP-UX version 10.x, type

        tar xvf /cdrom/platform/unix/crnadm/hp_ux/ca_hp10.tar

This creates a crnadm directory containing CrownAdmin.

A directory called hp is created for the installation.

9 When the installation is complete, choose Cancel, and then
   choose Exit this CD-ROM.

10 Unmount the CD-ROM file system:

      umount device_filename

For device_filename, substitute the complete pathname of
the device file associated with the CD-ROM drive.

11 Add the name of the directory containing crnadm (the
directory in which you extracted the ca_hp9.tar or
   ca_hp10.tar file) to your path.

12 Refer to the "QMS CrownNet Setup Guide" to configure the
   CrownNet interface and the network.

13 Run CrownAdmin by typing

      ./crnadm

>> Note: See the on-line user's guide for more information
on CrownAdmin (from the Help menu in the main
   CrownAdmin window choose Contents).
